NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY 2016 CELEBRATION IN MIZORAM
    National Science Day 2016 was celebrated in different parts of Mizoram in an effort to popularise the benefits of scientific knowledge and practical application. Under the initiative of Mizoram Science, Technology and Innovation Council (MISTIC) with support from National Council for Science and Technology Communication, DST, Govt. of India, various programmes are implemented and celebration events are organized at five districts namely Aizawl, Serchhip, Lunglei, Champhai and Kolasib. All programmes and activities revolve around a focal theme selected locally for the year 2016, which is "Make in India: Science and Technology driven Innovation". As the National Science Day falls on Sunday this year which is 28th February, 2016, it was celebrated in Mizoram prior or later date depending upon the conveniences at each 5 districts.
Aizawl
    In Aizawl, the celebration of National Science Day was organized on 27th February, 2016 at Vanapa Hall. Pu _, Hon'ble Minister  Planning, etc., Govt. of Mizoram who was the Chief Guest of the programme inaugurated Innovation Exhibition, 16 locally invented exhibits were displayed by 8 local innovators as shown below:-

    These exhibits were displayed for the whole day for observation for any interested person. Simultaneously, after the inauguration of the exhibition, National Science Day Celebration Programme was started with a welcome address by the Chairman of the inaugural programme, Dr. C. Vanlalramsanga, Secretary, Planning, etc., Govt. of Mizoram. A beautiful opening song was then performed by Pachhunga University College Choir. Dr. R.K Lallianthanga, Chief Scientific Officer, DST, Govt. of Mizoram and Member Secretary, MISTIC, gave a keynote address and a brief overview on the concept of National Science Day celebration in India. The Chief Guest, Pu _, gave a speech mentioning the importance and necessity of application of science and technology in our daily life. He emphasize on the importance of innovation for building and developing a nation. He also express his excitement and optimism upon learning the presence of several innovators in the state. The inaugural programme ended after Er. H. Lalsawmliana, Senior Scientific Officer, DST, Govt. of Mizoram gave vote of thanks to the participants of the celebration.
    Two Technical sessions followed, the theme of the first technical session was "Innovators-Academics-Industries Interface and Local Innovation Exhibition". This session was chaired by Pu Laltanpuia, Principal, Govt. ZIrtiri Residential Science College and Executive Member, MISTIC. 5 speakers presented papers on 5 different topics followed by discussions after each presentations. Pu Lalbiakzuala Ralte, Proprietor - P&B Machineries, who is a local innovator through his topic on "Innovations leh Mizo te", talk about the status of local innovators in the society, logistic problems  their faced and their request to Government to intervene in this sector. Pu Joseph L. Ralte, Entrepreneur talk on "Innovation and Entrepreneurship". Pu Rinzuala, MBA Marketing Expert, talk about general concept on Marketing. Then, the last speaker of the session Pu Samuel Lalmalsawma. Scientific Officer i/c Patent Information Centre, DST, Govt. of Mizoram gave a presentation on Patenting and Innovation. He talks about the importance of patenting for the security of invention and to exercise their rights, he also gave a brief overview of to whom, how, and where patenting can be done.
    The second technical session was chaired by Pu Lalrosanga, Director, Higher and Technical Education and Executive Member, MISTIC. This session do not have a theme. Presentations were given by three speakers; Representative from ICT, Govt. of Mizoram gave a talk on a topic "IT applications for Public Service Delivery", followed by discussion, second and third presentations were given by selected local innovators Pu H.V Lalzuimawia, Salem Veng and Pu Ramdinthara Renthlei, Mission Vengthlang.
    Dr. R.K Lallianthanga gave a concluding remarks at the last session. The National Science Day celebration ends after Dr C. Vanlalramsanga gave away prizes to the winners of the exhibition among the local innovators.
