On 30th march 2016 the directorate of science and technology organised "Sensitization Workshop on Protection of Mizo Indigenous Goods under Geographical Indication Registration" at planning department conference hall. Dr. C. Vanlalramsanga, Secy planning (Science & Technology) was the chief guest of the occasion.
Dr. RK Lallianthanga presided the workshop with the opening remark "We can take advantage of Goraphical Indication Act and register our traditional method and product". The chief guest also stated the urgency of the Govt. of Mizoram towards the legal protection of our traditional product as communication becomes easier and different culture mixed up.
The workshop have three resource person, Pu Benjamin Vanlalruata, state patent information centre spoke on importance of Patent Information Centre. Pi Boichhingpuii Director(Rtd.), Art & Culture on the historical background of traditional shawl. Pu. Samuel Lalmalsawma spoke on the the protection of traditional product.
The workshop was attended by several state department representatives and by non government organistion. The meeting was concluded with the discussion on what are the traditional products that can and possibly needs to be protected under geographical indication.
